![]() ![]() Q: Do we cage?
A: We cage Queens with very young kittens. We cage breeding pairs and we
cage for isolation purposes...such as an illness, etc.
Q: What do we feed our kitties and do we feed the same food to adults as well
as the kittens?
A: For the most part we feed either dry Royal Canin kitten formula or a mix of
Royal Canin kitten with Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care for kittens &
Eukanuba Chicken & Rice for kittens. We believe that the breeding adults
with the stresses of breeding need the extra fat & protein that the kitten
formulas provide. There are occasions that we use high quality canned
foods such as Pro Plan or Nutro. In feeding a dry diet it is a must to
provide plenty of fresh bottled water at all times.
Q: What kind of litter do we use?
A: We switch around quite a bit according to availability. However, we always
use the gravel type. We advise you to never use "clumping" litter.
However convenient it may be it can cause way more problems than it is
worth. Clumping litter can, over a period of time, build up in the intest-
inal tract and can cause severe problems that require immediate surgery
and can even cause death. The "Litter Pearl" types are great for odor
control but are very lightweight and scatter very easily. The can be very
useful by mixing a couple of cups in with cheap/unscented litter which
greatly reduces odor.
Q: What kind of litter boxes do we use?
A: We prefer any covered litter box. However, some cats refuse to go in a
covered litter box that has a flap on the opening so we don't recommend
the type with flaps.
Q: What kind of bowls do we use?
A: We use glass, ceramic or crystal. We never use plastic bowls. Also, in the
in the cages we use aluminum attachable bowls. When choosing bowls for
your kitty remember the heavier the better. The heavier they are the least
likely they will be to turn over.
Q: What kind of vaccinations do we use?
A: We do a series of vaccinations before you pick up your kitten. For yearly
shots (some vets recommend every 2-3 years) we recommend a three-way
vaccination of killed Panleukopenia with modified live Rhinotracheitis &
Calicivirus. NEVER give your kitten Feline Leukemia or FIP (Feline
Infectious Peritonitis) vaccinations. Most states require rabies shots.
Q: At what age do we let our kittens leave our home?
A: That depends a great deal on the particular kitten. At times and if our
kittens are being placed locally we let them go at 10 weeks of age. Most
kittens leave our care between 12-16 weeks of age. If you are offered a
kitten at 6-7 weeks of age that is a RED FLAG to purchase elsewhere!!
